Speech and Language Therapy in the UK
At the master’s level, this exciting and popular programme is a mix of theory and practice but does tend to be more clinically-oriented rather than research-oriented. This means its a great choice for preparing you for a career in the hearing and speech sciences field. While you undertake modules including topics like anatomy, physiology, psychology, and language, you’ll study the relationship between these topics with speech and language pathology to understand physical, psychological, and sociological factors that can affect communication. Throughout your studies, you’ll gain the practical knowledge to assess communication or eating, drinking, and swallowing difficulty enabling you to identify appropriate interventions and management techniques for future clients.
Work placements are integrated into the programme which allows you to build your professional resume and implement your knowledge to real-world scenarios. Placements may include a mixture of face-to-face, virtual, or telehealth experiences.
Applicants are expected to have relevant experience in a health-related field. This can include paid, volunteer or even shadowing experiences.
