You will gain hands on experience through placements, and free student entry to events such as London Book Fair, an internationally recognized trade event, to network while learning the skills of the industry.
With this degree, you will be able to take a background in English Literature, Journalism, Media, Marketing or Design and pursue a career in the creative field of publishing.
Publishing Degree Options
Publishing is offered at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. At the undergraduate level, your degree will be combined with another subject, such as creative writing or media and journalism, to help maximize your studies.
At the postgraduate level, you can complete an MSc, MA or an MLitt in Publishing Studies, which is a year-long course to prepare you to enter the industry. Your courses at this level will be made up of lectures, labs, placements and research, to ensure you are well prepared for any area of publishing you most wish to pursue. Placements at some of the UK’s top publishers, and working closely with the Society of Young Publishers, guarantee graduates will have had many opportunities to network and learn more about the industry firsthand.
Independent projects, such as the dissertation, allow students to focus their learning and discover which aspect of the industry interest them most. External opportunities, such as working on a university magazine or a university publisher, allow students to put their skills to use before starting their careers.
