The University of Dundee was founded in 1881 and became a college of St Andrews University in 1897. In 1967, they regained their independence and celebrated 50 years as an independent university in 2017. As Dundee is one of the world’s top 200 universities (Times Higher Education 2018) and holds a Gold Award in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2017, students can be assured that their teaching will be top-class and they will benefit from some of the fantastic facilities on offer at the university.

Dundee is a campus university at the heart of a thriving, student-centred city. The main campus is based in the city’s popular west-end and is close to lots of restaurants, cafés and local cultural hubs like Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) and the Dundee Rep.

Once you arrive in the city, you’ll also benefit from Dundee’s famously friendly approach and welcoming nature. In fact, the university regularly appears at the top end of student experience and student living surveys. In the recent National Student Survey (2017), Dundee was rated in the top 10 in the UK for student experience for the second successive year. What’s more, in the International Barometer 2017, the leading benchmarking tool used to track the international student experience, Dundee had the highest score in the UK for ‘satisfaction with living’.

The city itself benefits from a large student population and you’ll find lots of excellent social, religious and shopping facilities. Dundee enjoys a scenic location on the estuary of the River Tay on the east coast of Scotland, with the Highlands to the north and St Andrews and Edinburgh to the south. All of Scotland’s historic sites are within easy reach and Glasgow and Edinburgh are just a 1-hour train journey away.

With a range of scholarships available, and the flagship V&A museum of Design set to open in 2018, there’s never been a better time to come to Dundee.

Facilities

The University of Dundee benefits from world-class facilities and was rated in the top 5 in the UK for facilities by the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2017. As Dundee is a relatively compact campus, the majority of facilities are within easy walking distance and on-campus student accommodation, the Enquiry Centre, students union, gym and main library are all just a few minutes apart. This helps to create a strong community feel within the campus and contributes towards a friendly atmosphere.

Dundee’s campus is a mix of modern and traditional buildings, all equipped with the latest technology. The students’ union (DUSA) was rated as the best in Scotland (Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2017) and supports students throughout their studies with advice and guidance and they also host regular events throughout the year.

The Institute of Sport and Exercise (ISE) has a range of facilities available including two exercise studios, three glass-backed competition standard squash courts, a designated strength performance centre, a specialised dance/indoor studio, a 25m swimming pool with sauna, floodlit all-weather tennis courts and two large indoor sports halls. There’s a range of 40+ sports clubs and over 190 student societies so you’ll always have something to do.

The main library offers students on-campus access to the information and support that can help throughout their studies. This includes face-to-face help from professional library staff and long opening hours throughout the semester (including 24-hour access during exams). There’s also a range of learning spaces and access to 322 PC’s. Students also benefit from the university’s high-speed wifi and extensive electronic resources including e-books, e-journals and image and sound resources from across the world.

At Dundee, students have access to top-class support, even after they have graduated. Whilst studying, there is a range of services available including counselling and student support. What’s more, the careers service offers lifetime support to all Dundee graduates and can help students by providing valuable careers guidance.
