STUDY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE

With over 300 courses available to international students, across seven Schools of Study, you can find a programme to progress your career goals. They offer a wide range of facilities to allow their students to engage with learning in ways that offer so much more than just lectures in a classroom. From the mock law court, specialist laboratories, Clinical Simulation Centre and more, many of the courses also have a placement option, giving you that hands-on experience to make you stand out from the crowd.

HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE

The university has come a long way since the founding in 1952 as a Technical College, on land donated by the then Chairman of the de Havilland Aircraft company, AS Butler. Many of the earliest courses were directly related to industry, with an emphasis on mechanical and aeronautical engineering and the natural sciences.

Those firm foundations led swiftly to their expansion, first into a Polytechnic before achieving our full University status in 1992. The legacy of their history can still be felt across the de Havilland Campus, with many of the original de Havilland Airfield landmarks, such as the beacon and the de Havilland Goblin engine, remaining prominent on-site and continuing to define the character of the University.

STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITIES AND INTERNSHIPS

The University of Hertfordshire offers you a unique opportunity to spend part of your course studying at one of their many partner universities around the world or to take a work placement overseas.

Why should I study abroad?

With more and more companies working internationally, there has never been a better time to be well travelled. Experience of living in another country - and even better, speaking the language – can make a great impression on future employers. It is an adventure you will never forget, boosting your confidence, increasing your independence, introducing you to new people and cultures and giving you a fresh perspective on the world. You will also pick up valuable skills and experience that will help you stand out from the crowd.

In terms of employability, a Universities UK report (2019) showed that mobile graduates are more likely to get a better class of degree, to be in a graduate level job and to have a higher starting salary and less likely to be unemployed.

It may also not cost as much as you think. Many of the destinations have a lower cost of living and you may be eligible for financial support.

EMPLOYABILITY AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The University of Hertfordshire Careers and Employment service works hard to support all the students of the School of Creative Arts with career planning and professional skills building throughout their time on their course.

Students (and also graduates for two years after they have finished their course) have access to all of the services that Careers and Employment (CE) provide; including face to face appointments to discuss any aspect of their career planning, career workshops and webinars, and a wide range of online resources on Handshake, a bespoke career planning portal exclusively for University of Hertfordshire students.
