Falmouth University is a vibrant specialist creative multi-arts institution based in the beautiful South-west of England. The courses cover the areas of Art, Design, Media, Film, Performance and Writing. Undergraduate degrees are three years in length and are focused on the subject area. Focused graduate programs will take one year to complete.


Falmouth University is located on the south coast of Cornwall, and is based across two campuses in the joining towns of Falmouth and Penryn, which are only a ten minutes’ drive apart. 

Cornwall is the 2nd largest creative hub in the UK outside of London, and Falmouth University continues the tradition of developing creative individuals in Cornwall. Between the 1920s and 1960s the area saw an influx of influential artists, including Barbara Hepworth, Kit Wood and Alfred Wallis. The attraction of Cornwall’s breathtaking natural beauty continues to attract artists and creative individuals producing everything from arts and crafts to food and drink.

Skilled and industry ready

The creative industries are the fastest growing sector of the UK economy. One in six of all jobs held by graduates in the UK now sit within the creative economy, which is worth £76.9 billion, and we provide a gateway into this sector.

Falmouth University’s graduates' employability levels have reached 97% in 2016 against a UK average of 91%. This score, from the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education Survey (DLHE) 2015, measures those who are in employment or further study six months after graduation.

Falmouth students are also at least four times more likely to be running their own business, with 27% self-employed after six months against 5.9% across the UK.

Distance learning/ online opportunities

For candidates unable to dedicate a full in country year to their studies, either because of work or family responsibilities etc. Falmouth has some excellent, innovative and fully flexible Distance/Online Master’s degree programmes available in Photography, Advertising and Marketing, Creative App Development and Creative Events Management. Even though there are some exciting and attractive “in-person” workshops built into these options, none of them are compulsory and you really can design your study schedule to fit with your individual circumstances (contact an ATP Advisor for more details).

  • Lynette Yiadom-Boakye is a well-regarded artist who has been shortlisted artists for the Turner Prize, widely recognized internationally as one of the most important and prestigious awards for the visual arts.
  • John Donohue studied music composition and was recently shortlisted for anEmmy for a score he produced for a television production.  

Still time to apply

There is still time to apply to UK universities for most subject areas! Many UK universities will take applications until late Spring and early Summer. That being said, we do advise you to apply as soon as possible to make sure that you can get an offer.

If you're thinking of applying, consider applying before January 15th! While generally the 15 January UCAS deadline doesn't apply to international students, there are some exceptions and it helps to beat the rush of UK/EU students who will be submitting.

New Design Programme at Falmouth!

Falmouth University announces a new intensive studio based course, a one-year Master's in Communication Design. This 45 week program (3 semesters) includes access to studio space, a design lab, digital printing facilities, a Risograph machine, and much more. You will be able to take advantage of Falmouth’s extensive library facilities and digital collections, as well as their film, photographic, textiles, and product design studios.
