Oxford Brookes Racing finished as the best UK team in this year’s Formula Student competition held at Silverstone in July this year.
Formula Student is the world’s largest student motorsport competition and challenges university motorsport engineering teams from across the globe to design, build and race a single-seat racing car in one year. The cars are then judged on their speed, acceleration and endurance, while the teams are tested on their design, costing and business presentation skills.
Oxford Brookes Racing finished in second place in the Engineering Design category and the Skid-Pad Challenge, and third place in the Endurance Challenge. The results meant the team placed second out of 81 teams in the world.
Professor Chrisina Jayne, Head of the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics at Oxford Brookes University said: “I am delighted with what Oxford Brookes Racing has achieved at Formula Student. This success demonstrates the high-standard of our students and the capabilities, innovation and engineering knowledge they have gained at Oxford Brookes. The team have been able to deliver a complex product in a demanding and competitive environment and they are excellent ambassadors for both the University and British engineering.
