The University of Southampton prides itself on being a research-intensive academic institution, but with this image, many students do not realize that they have their own Art and Design school.  This is indeed rare for any member of the Russell Group; only two institutions in the Russell Group have an Art School. (“Russell Group” universities are those universities in the UK that maintain the best research, teaching, student learning experience and business links.  There are currently only 24 universities out of the 120-odd total universities that are in the Russell Group).

Winchester School of Art is one of the UK’s leading art and design institutions and offers students the opportunity to study in a far more intimate setting than on the main university campus, studying among a tight-knit creative community of only 1300 students.  The benefit of studying in an Arts-based program at the University of Southampton is that students will benefit from both a flexible program driven by the needs of today’s creative industries, while also studying in an environment which encourages independent research and, in some cases, cross-disciplinary projects, with world-leading departments, such as Computer Science.

Students who are interested in combining their love of Fashion with Business are also often attracted by Winchester’s Management and Marketing pathways.

Winchester School of Art also benefits from a fantastic location – right in the heart of the historic cathedral city of Winchester, just 25 minutes by car and 15 minutes by train from Southampton.
