City, University of London is in the heart of London close to world famous sights such as St Pauls Cathedral, The British Museum and the West End. The surrounding areas boasts many cafes, bars and restaurants and excellent transport links to the rest of London and the UK.

Being in one of the most multicultural cities in the world, City is a truly international university with more than 32% international students coming from more than 150 different countries. The university was recently ranked the 53rd most international university in the world (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015-2016).

City was founded in 1894 and got university status in 1966. The university took its name from The City of London, one of the world finance centers, to reflect the longstanding relationship with The City. The University is joining the University of London in 2016 which will signal the start of a new era for the university.

City has five schools each with their own distinctive profile and character. They are;

Cass Business School
Cass in one of the few business schools in the world which holds the gold standard of 'triple-crown' accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS). Cass is ranked as the 4th best business school in the UK and 19th in Europe (Financial Times European Business School Rankings 2014).

School of Arts and Social Sciences
The School's Department of International Politics recorded the highest course satisfaction score (99%) in the country in the latest National Student Survey (NSS) and QS World University Rankings 2015 place City 11th in the UK for Economics. Journalism is regarded as a leader in its field with an unrivalled record of getting graduates into the best jobs in journalism.

School of Health Sciences
With a history spanning 120 years, the School of Health Sciences is a world-leading center for healthcare education and applied healthcare research.

School of Mathematics, Computer Science & Engineering
Engineering was at the heart of City's foundation in 1894. Mechanical and Electrical Engineering were two of the first departments formed.

The City Law School
The City Law School is one of London's major law schools and offers an impressive range of academic and professional courses. Located in the very heart of legal London, they are the first law school in London to educate students and practitioners at all stages of legal education

Facilities

City boasts extensive library facilities with a collection of over 250,000 volumes, together with over 50,000 titles that can be accessed electronically on and off campus.

Cutting-edge technologies, 24 hours IT support via telephone and widely available Wi-Fi access ensure students enjoy excellent connectivity. City provide over 1,000 PCs, 200 Apple Macs and 57 Linux workstations, located in accessible areas around the campus, with 24 hour access for specific areas.

Students benefit from the use of State-of-the-art facilities specific to their subject areas. Students in the School of Mathematics, Computer Science & Engineering enjoy access to comprehensive laboratory facilities: The Handley Page Laboratory, for example, houses wind tunnels and flight simulators. The Department of Journalism boasts a broadcasting studio that was designed in collaboration with the leading figures from the industry.

The team of International student advisors can provide guidance on applying for visas to study in the UK and how to renew this. They also provide a comprehensive advice on everything from setting up a bank account to registering with a doctor. The Student Centre can also help with queries relating to finance, including details of scholarships for international students and loan schemes for students from Canada and the Unites States.

In 2015, City opened CitySport our brand new sports and fitness centre, offering a very different experience from traditional gym chains. It has over 120 fitness stations including the latest cardiovascular and resistance equipment and an extensive range of free weights catering for all training facilities. Its Olympic-standard sports hall provides space for team and solo sports such as football, badminton, basketball and volleyball. Membership fee is discounted for City students.

The Student’s Union aim to put fun into university life without breaking the bank. They have a wide range of student clubs and societies and regularly organise events such as end-of-term parties, open mic nights and various others.

All international first year undergraduate students are guaranteed a place in the university’s halls of residence. Graduate students can apply for rooms in dedicated graduate halls of residence and priority is given to international students. There is a range of choices available from self-contained studio flats to options with shared kitchens. Most of the accommodation is within a very short walk of the main university campus.

City University London Climbs the Rankings

City University London has been ranked 18th (and 4th in London) in the Guardian University Guide 2017. The leap from 37th place last year makes City the largest climber in this year’s top 20 and positions the University for the first time as a 'top 20’ UK university.

It was the rise in City’s student satisfaction ratings, especially among Journalism and Accounting & Finance students, that helped drive City’s improvement.
